Opening Italian children's book collection

Eindhoven Library, Eindhoven Italian School "La Lampadina," and Heritage Language Schools Eindhoven (HLSE) are happy to announce the opening of an Italian children's book collection at the Eindhoven Library at Witte Dame. This joint project recognizes the importance of supporting multilingual children in the development of all of the languages they speak.

On Sunday, February 16, 2020, at 14:40, there will be a short introduction of the Italian children's collection by Gisi Cannizzaro and Juliana Nasufi, promotors of heritage language education in Eindhoven, followed by some remarks from Eindhoven City Council Member Miriam Frosi. From 15:00 to 16:00, the usual monthly Italian reading activity will take place, with a reading of a book in Italian and a creative activity for the children.

The Italian children's book collection contains approximately 300 books for children ages 0 to 12 and can be checked out by children who hold an Eindhoven Library card. The partnership between the Eindhoven library and La Lampadina allows Italian-speaking children in Eindhoven to easily access books in their mother tongue during library hours, at no cost. A Chinese collection for children is expected to open in 2020 as well. An English collection for children already exists, provided by The Reading Pier. If the Italian and Chinese collections are a success, other language schools will be invited to participate as well, supported by HLSE.
