In this story-inspired art experience, children (ages 6-10) will gather in the library to listen to 'A House for Hermit Crab' by Eric Carle , a story about growth, friendship, and finding one’s place in the world.

After story time, children will explore the colorful world beneath the sea, painting pasta to create their own coral reef artworks. Through color, texture, and hands-on making, they’ll not only create art but also feel the soul of being and doing art — expressing themselves, connecting with nature, and discovering the beauty of shared creativity within the calm, inspiring space of the library.

This workshop blends literacy, art, and mindfulness, inviting children to learn, imagine, and create in harmony with the spirit of the story and the environment around them.

“Hikâyeden Denize: Kaplumbağa Yengeci İçin Bir Ev” atölyesi, çocukların deniz altının renkli dünyasını keşfedeceği uygulamalı bir çalışmadır. Eric Carle’in A House for Hermit Crab kitabından ilham alan çocuklar, kendi canlı mercan resiflerini yaratmak için makarnaları boyayacak; bu süreçte yaratıcılıklarını ifade ederken doğa ve hayal gücüyle bağ kuracaklar.

Bu atölye aynı zamanda hikâyeleri yaratıcı ve keyifli deneyimlerle ilişkilendirerek okuma sevgisini geliştirmeyi ve olumlu okuma alışkanlıklarını desteklemeyi amaçlıyor.

About Workshop Instructor Meltem Karakuyu Sanguder

I’m an artist and lecturer originally from Turkey, where I spent many years working in Fine Arts education at the university level. In 2018, I moved to Prague to continue my artistic journey in my private studio, and in 2024, I relocated to Eindhoven, bringing new energy and inspiration to my work.

Over the years, I’ve participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, art fairs, and academic events. Alongside creating, I am passionate about teaching art to both children and adults. I truly enjoy helping others explore their creativity and witnessing the joy that the artistic process brings into their lives.
