Today we discuss Caliban and the Witch by Silvia Federici
Academic, non-fiction book of feminist theory and historical analysis. Silvia Federici reinterprets the transition from feudalism to capitalism through the lens of gender, arguing that the rise of capitalism was deeply intertwined with the subjugation of women.
Don't be scared by the scholarly text - we are supporting the book club with two radio shows hosted by the wave in RaRaRadio Eindhoven on17 September and 15 October from 18-20 o'clock (will be available on mixcloud afterwards). During the book club we will be focusing on the last two chapters: The great witch hunt in Europe, and Colonization and Christianization.
Join us as we explore feminist literature together. You’re welcome to read the book in your preferred language — and don’t worry if you haven’t finished it! Our discussions are held in English and focus broadly on the themes and topics raised in each book.
We aim to create an open, accessible space for learning and sharing. De bibliotheek is wheelchair accessible via a lift, but please note that there is no disabled bathroom. If you have specific access needs, feel free to contact us — we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
We do not tolerate TERFs, racism, or discrimination against LGBTQ+ communities. This is a space for respectful, inclusive dialogue.
