Today: The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali
An easy to read novel of friendship, betrayal, and resilience set in 1950s Tehran. Follow Ellie and Homa whose lives diverge dramatically due to class, politics, and personal choices as Iran undergoes seismic political shifts—from monarchy to revolution to war. Kamali explores the strength of women navigating love, trauma, and justice across decades. Content warning: Includes sexual violence and political imprisonment.
During the book club we’ll also reflect on the Iranian freedom movement Women, Life, Freedom, as Mahsa Aminis death marks its third anniversary.
