In “Eco Engineers: Design a Bug Hotel,” children (ages 7–10) step into the role of young environmental engineers, designing and building creative habitats for beneficial insects. Using a mix of recycled and natural materials, from pinecones and bark to cardboard and twigs, participants construct their own unique bug hotels to support biodiversity in their backyards.

As they build, children explore sustainability, creativity, and the vital role insects play in our ecosystem. The workshop encourages teamwork, hands-on problem-solving, and environmental empathy — blending science and art in a fun, nature-based experience.

By the end of the session, each participant will take home their own eco-friendly bug hotel, ready to welcome nature’s tiny guests and contribute to a healthier planet.

“Ekolojik Mühendisler: Böcek Oteli Tasarla” atölye çalışmasında, 7–10 yaş arası çocuklar, genç çevre mühendisleri rolüne bürünerek faydalı böcekler için yaratıcı yaşam alanları tasarlayıp inşa edecekler. Çam kozalakları, kabuklar, dallar ve karton gibi doğal ve geri dönüştürülmüş malzemeleri kullanarak kendi benzersiz böcek otellerini oluşturacak ve bahçelerindeki biyolojik çeşitliliğe katkıda bulunacaklar.

Yapım sürecinde çocuklar, sürdürülebilirlik, yaratıcılık ve böceklerin ekosistemimizdeki hayati rolünü keşfedecekler. Atölye, takım çalışmasını, uygulamalı problem çözmeyi ve çevresel empatiyi teşvik ederek bilimi ve sanatı eğlenceli, doğa temelli bir deneyimde bir araya getiriyor.

Oturumun sonunda her katılımcı, doğanın küçük misafirlerini ağırlamaya hazır kendi çevre dostu böcek otelini evine götürecek ve daha sağlıklı bir gezegene katkıda bulunacak.

About Workshop Instructor Meltem Karakuyu Sanguder

I’m an artist and lecturer originally from Turkey, where I spent many years working in Fine Arts education at the university level. In 2018, I moved to Prague to continue my artistic journey in my private studio, and in 2024, I relocated to Eindhoven, bringing new energy and inspiration to my work.

Over the years, I’ve participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, art fairs, and academic events. Alongside creating, I am passionate about teaching art to both children and adults. I truly enjoy helping others explore their creativity and witnessing the joy that the artistic process brings into their lives.
