Workshop 3: Exploring Complement: Limited Palette

Working with standard drawing materials and incorporating colored pencil, we will explore short, focused drawing exercises and techniques to the principles of the color wheel and how to use complements (opposite colors). Additionally, we will investigate how drawing techniques can be used to focus and connect to your surroundings. After each workshop you can expect to take home a series of sketches and at least one focused drawing, along with feedback and encouragement from peers.

Series: Working with Color in Drawing
This series of workshops will explore techniques that simplify the transition from drawing in black and white to drawing using color. In each workshop, we will practice sketching from observation within the library space and using various materials such as colored paper and colored pencil to explore full color compositions. After each workshop you can expect to take home a series of sketches and at least one focused drawing, along with feedback and encouragement from peers. Participants will develop their findings in pursuit of a personalized approach to sketching and drawing. Each instructor-led workshop will be led in English, beginning with a short introduction and demonstration, and ending with time for a sustained drawing.

Basic drawing materials provided. This series of workshops can be taken in sequence or individually.
Suitable for age groups: Age 15+, All skill levels welcome
Activity language: English (instructor also speaks Spanish and A1 Dutch)

About Eleanor Greer
Eleanor Greer is an artist from Southern California, USA and makes colorful paintings that explore her curiosity of the built environment as it interacts with the natural world. Her practice-based research uses the language of drawing and painting to probe topics of urban development and landscape change where she lives. Eleanor has a BFA in Drawing/Painting and an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from San Diego State University. When she is not drawing and painting, she is taking walks, spending time over coffee with friends and family and planning new places to visit on her Dutch bike.
