The world celebrates the International Migrants Day on 18th December. A day to celebrate the role of the migrant and the contribution that migration- both voluntary and forced- brings to development. On 16th December, Eindhoven Library will hold a special event to discuss the challenges and difficulties that forced migrants, and displaced persons go through while trying to flee their homeland with Chaitali Sengupta's book The Crossings, poems on war, migration & survival.
The Ukrainian poet Vyacheslav Konoval Ivanovych says: "The Crossings is a beautiful creation, focusing on the issues of war, migration, survival, and hope. Chaitali's creative expression is based on the personal tragedies gleaned from eyewitnesses, forced migrants, and survivors of war. Lyrical, gentle, sometimes shockingly beautiful lines in a not-so-beautiful world focus on details of destroyed landscapes and shattered humanities through war. She has eyes and a soul that understands suffering."
The event will include a short discussion on Chaitali's book The Crossings followed by a reading from the book. There will be other speakers talking about, among other things, the exploitation of the labor migrants in this country. There will be a few invited guests sharing their experience of survival as a migrant. It will be followed by readers sharing their feedback on the book and book signing by the author.
